How do you escape the room after killing Mercer? ›

Escaping Irkngthand

After you have killed Mercer, take the Skeleton Key and Eyes of Falmer. The chamber that you are in will begin to fill with water. Although it may be scary, stay in the room until the water until a rock near the statue in the room falls, revealing an entrance to the Bronze Water Cave.

The exit tunnel is only available after Mercer Frey is dead, and is above the statue's head. The water level rising will allow you to enter a tunnel leading to Bronze Water Cave. You'll need to wait for the guards that come in with Malborn, to try to keep you from escaping. Kill the guards and loot the key off one of their bodys. (Note: If you level up while your here, you will need to take care of that before you can leave.) Then open the Trap Door and leave.

Jump down and wait for about 25 seconds. The Skeleton Key will activate and cause the floor to break away, causing you to conveniently fall down right on the Ebonmere lock. Activate the lock, and you will have returned the Ebonmere to its rightful place.
